Astute’s Nuclear team is partnering with a leading engineering organisation to recruit a Civil & Structural Engineer to support an established site team on an exciting nuclear new-build programme.
The Civil & Structural Engineer role will involve delivering structural engineering analysis, design and assessment across reinforced concrete, steel and civil infrastructure. You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, supporting technically complex projects within a highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities and duties of the Civil & Structural Engineer role
Reporting to the Relevant Engineering Lead, you will
- Deliver structural engineering analysis, design and assessment for reinforced concrete, steel and civil infrastructure.
- Produce and review structural calculations, models, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
- Develop design substantiation and technical documentation to meet project and regulatory requirements.
- Undertake assessments for normal, construction, environmental and extreme loading conditions, including seismic loading where required.
- Work closely with civil, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, process, construction and safety teams.
- Support design reviews, technical assurance activities and the resolution of engineering queries.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, quality requirements and CDM 2015.
- Support continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and mentoring of graduate and early-career engineers.

Professional Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Working towards Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience in the analysis and design of reinforced concrete, steel and civil engineering structures.
- Knowledge of relevant UK and international design codes and standards.
- Experience using structural analysis software and engineering digital tools.
- Experience within infrastructure, energy, nuclear or another regulated industry is desirable.
- Nuclear new-build experience would be advantageous.
- Knowledge or experience of American codes and standards is desirable but not essential.
Personal skills
- Strong technical understanding of structural behaviour and complex loading conditions.
- Experience producing technical reports and design substantiation.
- Able to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Confident managing technical interfaces and engaging with key stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- A proactive approach to technical assurance and engineering delivery.
- Keen to develop knowledge and support the development of less experienced engineers.
