Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

At Arup, structural engineering is at the heart of what we do. Our engineers design safe, efficient, and sustainable structures, combining technical expertise with innovative thinking. Through collaboration and advanced digital tools, we solve complex engineering challenges and develop resilient, high-performing structural solutions that shape the future of engineering.

The Opportunity

Scotland's infrastructure is undergoing significant transformation to support decarbonisation, energy security, economic growth and community resilience. We are seeking talented Civil Structural Engineers at a range of grades (including Engineer, Senior Engineer and Principal Engineer) to join our growing Glasgow based Energy Water & Resources team to support the delivery of projects that will make this possible.

Our current portfolio covers a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects in the Renewable Energy, Water and Maritime sectors. Typical examples include; pumped storage hydro developments, HV transmission infrastructure, major wastewater utility renewals and ports and harbour regeneration projects, alongside a proven track record in urban realm redevelopment and wider civil engineering infrastructure. These projects range from local interventions to nationally significant programmes, providing opportunities to work on schemes that create lasting value for communities, industry and the environment.

Arup has had an office in Glasgow for close to 60 years now and you will be joining a well-established and growing team. You will have the opportunity to work alongside highly experienced engineers, project managers and specialists from across the UK and beyond, contributing to projects that span a broad range of sectors and disciplines.

You will have the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, from initial concept stage and feasibility studies through to detailed design, project delivery and construction support. Whether supporting project development in its early stages or helping to solve complex challenges during delivery, you will play a key role in shaping practical and sustainable engineering solutions.

Our projects and clients continue to evolve alongside changing industry priorities, so we are looking for engineers who are curious, adaptable and motivated to learn. In return, we will support your professional growth through exposure to challenging projects, collaboration with leading specialists and opportunities to develop both technical and leadership skills.

You will take ownership of project delivery activities, help shape technical solutions, and contribute to the development of both our clients' projects and the wider team. As our Glasgow team continues to grow, you will have genuine opportunities to influence project delivery, support business development activities and help shape the future direction of our civil engineering capability.

Is this role right for you?

Your responsibilities will vary depending on your seniority, with increasing responsibility at Senior and Principal Engineer levels for leading, influencing and supporting project delivery and management activities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
