Develop Your Potential and Shape the Future of Water Infrastructure
At AtkinsRéalis, our Design & Advanced Technology practice brings together some of the UK's most diverse engineering and design expertise to tackle the most complex challenges facing our clients and communities.
We are seeking a Civil Engineer to join our growing Water team, helping to deliver a diverse portfolio of projects for UK water companies, local authorities, and environment organisations. Whether your experience is in water, highways, development infrastructure, utilities, or another civil engineering discipline, this role offers the opportunity to apply your skills to some of the UK's most important environmental and infrastructure challenges.
With a strong pipeline of work secured through major frameworks and long-term investment programmes, you will join a nationally connected team delivering projects across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity to build your career in the water sector, broaden your technical expertise, work towards Chartership, and play a key role in delivering critical infrastructure for future generations.
You will contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of regulated and non-regulated projects that support clean water, wastewater, flood resilience, environmental improvement, and sustainable development. Working within multidisciplinary teams, you will help develop practical and innovative engineering solutions that create lasting benefits for communities and the environment.
When you join us, you'll become part of a collaborative community of experts who challenge conventional thinking and push the boundaries of engineering excellence.
You'll benefit from:
- Access to a strong and growing pipeline of water sector work.
- Opportunities to work across major framework commissions for nationally significant water infrastructure programmes.
- Structured Chartership and professional development support.
- Collaboration with leading multidisciplinary teams across water, environment, infrastructure, and project delivery across the UK and internationally.
- Opportunities to influence project outcomes from concept through to delivery.
- A culture that encourages innovation, technical excellence and professional growth.
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements that support work-life balance.
We offer hybrid working which involves 3 days per week being office/site based. This position can be based from any of our major offices of London Nova, Epsom, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, or Glasgow.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
