Salary: Up to £35.5k + Flexible Benefits
Freedom Networks has an exciting opportunity for a Civils Ganger to join our Small Works team, supporting our Northern Powergrid contracts across the North East. Working as part of the Cable Engineering Services Contract (CESC), you will lead site teams undertaking excavation, reinstatement and associated civils activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
This role is ideal for an experienced civils professional with strong leadership skills who is looking to play a key role in delivering critical infrastructure works across the region.
Key Deliverables
- Lead and supervise civils operatives carrying out excavation and reinstatement works across the Small Works programme.
- Support Project Managers and Supervisors in the safe and efficient delivery of works.
- Ensure all site activities are delivered in accordance with Freedom and client Health & Safety standards.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring all team members work to the highest H&S standards.
- Coordinate daily site activities, ensuring labour, plant and materials are utilised effectively.
- Liaise with client contract coordinators, engineers and operational teams to support project delivery.
- Ensure all site documentation and completion packs are completed accurately and submitted within required timescales.
- Engage professionally with customers, landowners and members of the public when required.
- Monitor quality standards and ensure works are completed to specification.
- Support the training and development of team members, ensuring compliance with Freedom's procedures and standards.

What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Experience in a civils supervisory or ganger role within utilities, construction, excavation or reinstatement environments.
- Strong understanding of excavation and reinstatement activities.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate site-based teams.
- Strong commitment to Health & Safety and quality standards.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable:
- NRSWA (Streetworks) accreditation.
- Experience working on utility or power distribution contracts.
- Plant operator tickets or relevant industry qualifications.
- Experience working on Northern Powergrid or similar utility frameworks.
