Civils Operative
Location: North East Region
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Up to £33k + Flexible Benefits
Freedom Networks has an exciting opportunity for a Civils Operative to join our Faults team, supporting our Cable Engineering Services Contract on behalf of Northern Powergrid. Working across the North East region, you will be responsible for carrying out excavation and reinstatement works, supporting fault response activities, and ensuring works are delivered safely and efficiently.
This role includes participation in a shift and standby rota and is ideal for someone with experience in civils, utilities, or street works who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team.
Some of the key deliverables in this role will include:
- Carry out excavation and reinstatement works in support of fault and emergency response activities.
- Support the delivery of works across the Cable Engineering Services Contract (CESC).
- Work closely with Project Managers, Supervisors, and operational teams to ensure efficient delivery of works.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in line with Freedom and client Health & Safety standards.
- Assist in the timely completion and submission of all required site documentation.
- Liaise with client representatives, contract coordinators, and engineers as required.
- Engage professionally with customers and members of the public when working on site.
- Ensure all works are completed to the required quality standards and specifications.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all activities.

What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Experience working within civils, utilities, excavation, or reinstatement environments.
- Understanding of safe digging practices and site safety requirements.
- Strong commitment to Health & Safety.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable:
- Streetworks (NRSWA) accreditation.
- Experience working on utility or power distribution contracts.
- Previous fault response or emergency works experience.
- Plant operator tickets or relevant industry qualifications.
