Overview

Our client is looking to engage a highly motivated and experienced Civils & Piling Superintendent to join the Onshore Construction Team based in Cornwall.

Responsibilities

Global Level Summary

  • Directs a large group of people within the civils and piling disciplines on a construction site.
  • Provides leadership and is responsible for scheduling, workface planning, coordinating, supervising, ensuring HSE compliance, supporting apprentice training and driving productivity of construction crews.
  • Monitors costs and quality control.

Typical Qualifications

  • Typically requires significant construction site experience and relevant trade qualifications or certifications where applicable.

Decision Making

  • Plans and allocates workforce requirements to maintain adequate manpower levels for scheduled construction activities.
  • Monitors labour requirements, efficiency and productivity of construction crews.
  • Understands and applies company labour relations policies and procedures.

Supervision Received

  • Works with a high degree of autonomy and regular interaction with senior construction management.
  • Duties are assigned in line with operational objectives, priorities and critical activities.
  • Work is reviewed to ensure conformity with company policies and sound construction practices.

Supervision Authority

  • Exercises work direction over construction personnel, providing guidance and instruction on work methods and verifying completed work to ensure compliance with required standards.

Communication

  • Communicates effectively with site personnel and the construction management team.
  • Demonstrates the ability to influence others, build strong working relationships, and recognise and resolve conflict where required.

  • Advanced understanding of systems, processes and tools relating to civils and piling activities.
  • Able to support others, troubleshoot issues and contribute to the development and improvement of working practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven construction site experience within civils and piling environments.
  • Strong construction trade background with an in-depth understanding of multiple construction disciplines.
  • Ability to deputise for Construction Management when required.
  • Ability to read, interpret and challenge construction drawings across all disciplines.
  • Ability to monitor and manage construction costs.
  • Ability to compile, review and approve Construction Work Packs (CWPs) and associated documentation.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage construction activities across multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to compile handover and commissioning dossiers.
  • Ability to define and work within system and construction boundaries.
  • Ability to prepare and contribute to monthly progress and performance reports.
  • Understanding of BS5975 Temporary Works requirements.
  • Ability to undertake Quantity Surveying-related duties across multiple disciplines.
  • Studies and becomes familiar with relevant construction drawings, scopes of work, specifications, construction man-hour estimates, material schedules and equipment schedules.
  • Coordinates the activities of supervisory personnel, ensuring effective communication and control of site activities.
  • Working knowledge of all applicable Health & Safety legislation and associated responsibilities, including but not limited to:
    • Site Inductions
    • Permit to Work Systems (Issuer/Approver)
    • CDM Regulations 2015
    • Assessment and approval of Method Statements
    • COSHH Requirements
    • PUWER Requirements
  • Implements and promotes the Construction Safety Plan.
  • Ensures compliance with approved construction methods, procedures and practices, particularly those relating to quality assurance, safety and statutory requirements.
  • Ensures work is delivered in accordance with approved construction drawings, specifications and applicable standards whilst maintaining good construction practice.
  • Reviews daily construction reporting and progress updates to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
  • Provides technical guidance to site teams to support uninterrupted progress of construction activities.
  • Maintains awareness of workforce welfare and wellbeing on site, ensuring personnel are fully informed of their duties, site rules, procedures and responsibilities.
  • Inspects works to ensure technical compliance with drawings, specifications and scopes of work across multiple disciplines.
  • Reviews and approves test reports and construction documentation.
  • Identifies deficiencies and initiates and closes out non-conformance reports.
  • Inputs into construction schedules and planning activities as required.
  • Reviews construction schedules and progress reporting.
  • Supports progress verification and reporting activities.
  • Initiates Field Change Procedures where required.
  • Reviews construction costs and supports commercial evaluations where necessary.
  • Assists the Senior Construction Manager as required.
  • Ensures Permit to Work processes, Method Statements and Task Risk Assessments are followed by all personnel.
  • Ability to chair and facilitate multi-disciplinary constructability reviews and workshops.
