Consultant in Emergency Medicine

Substantive Consultant (10 PAs) + 12 month Fixed-Term Consultant (10 PAs)

Location:
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital

About the Role

Join a welcoming Emergency Medicine team serving a diverse region from the Cairngorm Mountains to the North Sea. You will work across a modern adult tertiary centre and a dedicated children’s hospital, with the breadth, autonomy, and responsibility expected of a consultant. The role combines high-quality major trauma care, resuscitation, procedural practice, adult and paediatric emergency care, leadership, telemedicine, teaching, improvement, and innovation.

We are not simply recruiting to fill vacancies, this recruitment is part of a significant workforce growth programme after a successful business case designed to improve sustainability, resilience, and consultant presence throughout the emergency care pathway.

Clinical Breadth

  • Adult and paediatric Emergency Medicine, with consultant-led major trauma care.

A Flexible Career

  • A part-annualised job plan of up to 10 PAs, negotiated around service needs, experience, and professional interests.

Qualifications and Experience

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required (licence to practise must be in place prior to starting in post). For more information visit www.gmc-uk.org.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from the date of interview.

CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive Consultant post once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration is awarded. Those with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be made to the GMC.
