Claims and Complaints Lawyer

A leading international law firm is seeking a Claims and Complaints Lawyer to join their highly respected Risk and Compliance team in London. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with the General Counsel team, handling complex issues, investigations, and responses related to professional indemnity insurance and client complaints.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly and effectively to issues raised under the firm's client complaints protocols, ensuring all procedures are followed with care and precision.
  • Contribute actively to the management of potential matters engaging the firm's professional indemnity arrangements by collaborating with risk lawyers and stakeholders.
  • Provide proactive commercial advice regarding service obligations, risks, exposures, and professional negligence practices to partners and lawyers throughout the firm.
  • Assist with internal investigations and reviews of service delivery by working closely with other stakeholders and liaising with compliance officers as appropriate.
  • Support training initiatives focused on best practice, client service excellence, and risk management within the department.
  • Engage in ad-hoc projects across the General Counsel function, collaborating with colleagues to deliver effective solutions.
  • Maintain meticulous records of investigations, complaints, claims, and resolutions in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Present yourself in a commercial yet pleasant manner when interacting with a diverse range of internal clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Prioritise competing demands efficiently while managing your own diverse workload within a fast-moving legal environment.
  • Attend to self-development by participating in learning opportunities offered by the firm's academy.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience handling investigations, complaints or claims within contentious insurance or law firm compliance roles is essential for success in this position.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks including engagement with professional indemnity insurers and familiarity with Legal Ombudsman processes is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to manage varied caseloads while reporting effectively to stakeholders across different levels of seniority within an organisation.
  • Qualified Solicitor status achieved via traditional training contract or alternative qualification routes is required for this role.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills enabling you to present yourself commercially yet pleasantly when dealing with partners, lawyers, and other stakeholders.
  • Meticulous drafting abilities coupled with strong attention to detail ensure accuracy in all written communications related to claims or complaints.
