Company Description
Merlin Insurance Brokers is an owner-run, independent commercial insurance firm that focuses on the built environment, from concept to completed asset. The company combines traditional broking principles with specialist teams in property, construction, and consultancy, offering best-in-class sector knowledge and experience. Based in the heart of the City of London, Merlin provides market reach comparable to large international brokers while maintaining a highly personal, expert-led service. The team emphasizes proactive risk mitigation, viewing insurance as a strategic enabler of commercial growth rather than a mere expense. Applicants can expect an entrepreneurial, client-focused environment where asking the right questions and tailoring cover to each client’s ambitions is central to the work.
Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid Claims Handler role based in the London Area, United Kingdom, with flexibility for some work from home. The Claims Handler will manage end-to-end claims processes, including notification, validation, investigation, and settlement across a range of commercial insurance lines. Daily responsibilities include liaising with clients, insurers, and other stakeholders, providing clear updates on claim progress, and ensuring timely resolution in line with policy terms and regulatory standards. The role involves documenting claims accurately, maintaining comprehensive records, and identifying patterns or emerging risks to support broader claims management strategies. The Claims Handler will also contribute to continuous improvement of claims procedures and collaborate closely with broking and account management teams to deliver a consistent, high-quality client experience.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
