I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You'll have regular contact with policyholders, insurance brokers, and other interested parties, gathering information, reviewing claims documentation, making settlement decisions within your authority limits, and ensuring that customers receive a first-class service throughout the claims process.
Qualifications
We're particularly keen to hear from candidates who have experience of handling Household, Domestic, or Commercial Property Claims. However, specific experience of handling commercial insurance claims is by no means essential, as comprehensive training and support will be provided.
Crucially, you'll have strong customer service skills, be highly organised, and possess the confidence to pick up the telephone and proactively progress claims. You'll enjoy taking ownership of your workload, be comfortable making decisions, and have a genuine desire to develop your technical knowledge.
Career Development
One of the biggest attractions of this opportunity is the career development on offer. This insurer has an excellent track record of promoting from within, and this particular team has proven to be a fantastic stepping stone into more specialist areas of claims handling. Previous employees have progressed into Senior Claims Handler positions within specialist Liability, Construction, and Complex Care teams, as well as team leadership roles.
The company is also a strong advocate of professional qualifications and will fully fund your CII studies, including providing study leave and ongoing learning support. There are also generous financial awards available for achieving professional qualifications, further demonstrating the company's commitment to developing its people.
