Location: Newcastle (Hybrid)
Office Attendance: Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00. You'll start your journey with 6 weeks of office-based training, to give you the skills, knowledge and support to succeed. Once fully competent in role, you'll have the opportunity to move to hybrid working, subject to meeting the required criteria.

At Tesco Insurance and Money Services, our Claims team does more than handle claims. We support customers through some of life's most challenging moments, helping them navigate difficult situations with empathy, expertise, and care.
We're looking for Claims Handlers - Settlements to join our Customer Settlement Team. In this role, you'll manage a portfolio of claims from investigation through to settlement, ensuring customers receive fair, timely, and professional outcomes while balancing commercial and regulatory responsibilities.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing claims team that is passionate about delivering excellent customer experiences. You'll use your technical claims knowledge and negotiation skills to make informed decisions, resolve complex situations, and achieve positive outcomes for customers, suppliers, and the business.
Whether it's settling claims, investigating liability, identifying fraud concerns, or supporting vulnerable customers, you'll play a vital role in helping customers when they need us most.
What you’ll be doing
- Delivering fair, accurate, and timely claim settlements by managing a portfolio of claims in line with policy cover, legal liability, and company procedures.
- Supporting customers through the claims journey by resolving queries, providing clear guidance, and delivering excellent customer service during often difficult circumstances.
- Investigating claims, assessing liability, and reviewing evidence to support informed decision-making and appropriate settlement outcomes.
- Negotiating effectively with suppliers, third parties, and representatives to achieve fair settlements and control overall claims costs.
- Managing claims reserves, recoveries, diary management, and file accuracy to ensure effective caseload management and regulatory compliance.
- Identifying potential fraud, complaints, and complex claims issues, escalating where appropriate, and supporting successful resolution.

What we’re looking for: (minimum criteria)
- Empathy when dealing with difficult and challenging situations, maintaining a sensitive and caring approach.
- Capability of demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to express complex information in straightforward terms where required.
- Robust level of computer literacy and ability to effectively navigate a range of IT-based systems.
- Confident approach and an ability to take ownership for own decisions within the established authority limits and parameters.
And if you have any of these, even better
- Strong technical knowledge of motor insurance claims, including insurance principles such as indemnity and subrogation, liability assessment, vehicle and property damage claims, relevant case law, industry protocols, and The Road Traffic Act.
- Proven experience managing an active claims caseload, with the ability to prioritize workloads effectively, demonstrate sound commercial judgement, make logical claims decisions, and take ownership within agreed authority levels.
- Excellent investigation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, including experience identifying and investigating potential motor fraud, assessing liability, and delivering solutions that meet both customer and business needs.
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships across a range of customers and third parties, explain complex information clearly, demonstrate empathy in challenging situations, and confidently utilize multiple IT systems to manage claims effectively.
