Claims Technician

Reports to: Claims Director

Working Arrangements: Full time Monday – Friday 9.00 – 5.00 (4 days in the office, one day from home)

Company Overview

Thomas Miller Claims Management (TMCM) is a unique marine risk management consultancy providing marine claims handling, adjusting, and operational support services to its global clients in the marine, transport, and general commercial business sectors. You will work in a collegiate environment with an experienced and agile team.

Overall Objective of Role

To support claims executives with technical and administrative back-up, in order that they may deliver a quick and accurate service. To be involved with team claims handling over time as led by the Claims Director and management team. Contributing to the provision of an efficient cost-effective claims handling service which meets the needs of the clients and encompasses company and industry best practice.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Undertake claims administration across different work streams.
  • Working knowledge of claim systems and claims reports advantageous, but not essential.
  • Working alongside staff to assist on the administration of more complex claims in order to build experience.
  • Learning about policies and procedures of the company and clients as well as IT applications.
  • Undertaking basic claims handling tasks as required.
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports for clients and other data gathering and reporting tasks.
  • Attending internal and external training as required.
  • Communicate effectively with all relevant stakeholders and assist the team with delivering high levels of customer service.
  • Develop productive relations with clients and team members.

Person Specification

Role would suit an organised and enthusiastic individual, keen to learn new skills in a dynamic environment (marine insurance claims handling) with excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritise.

  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders.
  • A good customer service focus.
  • Flexible and adaptable with ability to work under pressure and across different workstreams.
  • A team worker but also able to work on own initiative.
  • Self-motivated with good problem-solving skills and an acquisitive mindset looking to enhance their knowledge base further.
  • Good IT skills – both bespoke systems and Microsoft.
  • Curiosity in respect of strategic drivers for the business, such as finance, risk, and regulation.
