Class 1 Driver (Huntingdon) - £45,427.20 p.a. + benefits
As a Class 1 Driver you will be responsible for moving stock from our main DC in Huntingdon to our X-Dock locations as well as stores across the UK.
The Role
As one of our Class 1 / Trunk Drivers you will be part of a team that moves the stock from our main DC in Huntingdon to our X-Dock locations as well as stores across the UK. We have a certain number of trunk drivers based at each DC. This role will include morning and evening shifts along with overnight stays when required.
Operations
- Transport finished goods and raw materials over land to and from manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centres.
- Conduct a vehicle inspection at the start of each journey for mechanical items and safety issues and report any issues through the company defect policy.
- Complete all documentation relating to the journey made and the products carrier correctly and accurately.
- Plan your route to ensure you meet delivery schedules and that the most efficient route is taken at all times.
- Comply with current legislation and regulation relating to the driving and operating of the vehicle.
- Manoeuvre vehicles / trailers / de-mount boxes into loading or unloading positions and assist shunters at DC’s if required.
- Report any accident or incident in accordance with company guidelines.
- Work on a rotational shift pattern in line with your colleagues. This is a 24hr Sunday night to Friday trunk operation, so flexibility is required.
- Ensure vehicle digital tachographs are downloaded in line with current legislation.
- To comply with procedures and processes to ensure the effective, efficient and professional operation of Transport operation.
- Maintain driving licences, digital tachographs and Drivers CPC in line with current legislation.
- Work within the parameters of the Working Time Directive.

General
- To ensure the health and safety of Self, Customers and Colleagues is not at risk, by taking all reasonable steps to ensure safety in the workplace.
- To undertake prescribed training and development.
- To be available to work up to 48 hours per week in line with WTD- this is on a rotating shift pattern to cover our 24hour operation - this will include occasional nights out.
- To engage all external and internal customers by communicating in a friendly and professional manner ensuring that they are left with a lasting positive impression of our company.

What we are looking for
- A valid C+E Licence
- A UK driving licence Cat C1.
- Valid driver’s CPC DQ card
- Previous experience and understanding of using digital tachographs
- Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy items of furniture with manual handling experience
- Understanding of EU Driving legislation and tachograph law
- Desirable experience of using a PDA
