Class 1 Shunter Driver
Cardiff
£16.54 per hour average over 3 shifts + Up to 10% Annual Bonus + Excellent Benefits
Yolk Recruitment are supporting a leading manufacturing organisation with the recruitment of a Class 1 Shunter Driver to join their established Transport team in Cardiff.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Class 1 Driver or Shunter looking for a site-based driving role with no long-distance routes or nights away. You'll be responsible for safely moving products and trailers between locations across one industrial estate, supporting the smooth flow of goods across a busy manufacturing operation.

Working Hours
You'll work a weekly rotating three-shift pattern, Monday to Friday:
- Week 1: 6:00am - 2:00pm
- Week 2: 2:00pm - 10:00pm - with 10% shift allowance
- Week 3: 10:00pm - 6:00am - with 30% shift allowance
Then the rotation repeats.
This is what you'll be doing
As a Class 1 Shunter Driver, you'll work closely with the Transport Planning team to ensure products and trailers are moved safely and efficiently across the site.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Shunting and moving products and trailers between locations across the industrial estate.
- Operating Class 1 vehicles safely and efficiently within a busy manufacturing and logistics environment.
- Carrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting any defects or concerns promptly.
- Following daily instructions and movement requirements provided by the Transport Planning team.
- Positioning vehicles and trailers correctly to support loading, unloading and wider site operations.
- Strapping and securing loads safely on both flatbed and curtain-sided vehicles.
- Ensuring all goods are transported securely and in accordance with site procedures.
- Working closely with Transport, Warehouse and operational colleagues to support efficient product movements.
- Maintaining excellent Health & Safety standards when operating vehicles both on-site and, where required, on the road.
- Responding flexibly to changing operational priorities throughout the working day.
- Completing relevant vehicle and movement documentation accurately.
- Maintaining a safe, organised and professional approach at all times.

The experience you'll bring
- Experience securing loads on flatbed and/or curtain-sided vehicles.
- Experience with move larger/ heavier products.
- Previous experience working as a Shunter Driver, Class 1 Driver.
- Previous shunting experience within a busy industrial, manufacturing, warehouse or distribution environment.
- Valid HGV Class 1 / Category C+E licence.
- Valid Driver CPC, Valid Digital Tachograph / Driver Card.
- Strong understanding of vehicle and site Health & Safety requirements.
- Excellent timekeeping and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently.
- Flexible approach to changing operational requirements.

- Mornings £14.59, Afternoons £16.05, Nights £18.97 per hour.
- 10% shift premium on afternoon shifts, 30% on night shifts.
- Average earnings across the three-shift rotation of approximately £16.54 per hour / £34,400 per annum.
