Class 2 Driver

Here at GXO we are looking for Class 2 driver to join us on our contract at Birmingham Airport Consolidation Centre. You will work a minimum of 40 hours a week, on any 5 of 7 shift pattern, working between the hours of 02:00-10:00 and 04:00-10:00. Some flexibility will be required on working hours during summer peak due to the business needs.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Perform aviation security functions involving receiving goods into the centre, loading and unloading of conveyor belts leading to and from the X-Ray machines.
  • Operating the X-ray machines including holding a Digital National X Ray competency test certificate
  • Decanting goods from pallets/cages, restacking goods onto pallets and cages and loading /unloading of vehicles.
  • Driving a class 2, 18 tonne rigid to the airport and onto the airfield delivering goods to concessions within the airport terminal after security
  • Delivering the goods, speaking to customers, and completing delivery sign off
  • Driving distance is low and actual driving time accounts for less than 20% of the working day

What you need to succeed at GXO:

  • All candidates will need an airside pass which requires, full referenced employment and address history for the last 5 years, passing of Criminal records and counter terrorism checks and successfully completing all Aviation security and x-ray operating training
  • Those with a complicated employment history or have previous employers who will not verify their employment are likely to be unsuccessful
  • Experience of working in a security environment would be advantageous but not essential.
  • A valid Class 2 licence with an up-to-date CPC and Digital Tachograph
  • Less than six points on your licence (as well as no DD, DR, DG, BA, CD, AC, LC or TT endorsements)
  • Counterbalance FLT experience would be advantageous
  • A strong understanding of road safety and vehicle compliance
