3 Months Contract with a Local Authority

Umbrella - £20.21 per hour - Umbrella

Job Purpose

As a Class 2 Waste and Cleansing Driver, you will be responsible for safely operating HGV Class 2 vehicles while leading waste collection and cleansing crews across Nottingham City. You will ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the required environmental and customer service standards.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Drive HGV Class 2 waste and cleansing vehicles on designated routes.
  • Carry out daily vehicle safety inspections and defect reporting.
  • Lead and supervise a small crew during daily operations.
  • Ensure waste collection and cleansing services are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Operate in-cab systems and digital reporting software.
  • Record service delivery information, incidents, and operational issues.
  • Ensure compliance with road traffic legislation and Council procedures.
  • Promote health and safety best practice at all times.
  • Liaise professionally with residents, businesses, and members of the public.
  • Support refuse collection, recycling, cleansing, and environmental services operations.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, customer service, and operational performance.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents and operational challenges on route.

Essential Experience Required

  • Experience driving HGV Class 2 (Category C) vehicles.
  • Experience working within:
    • Waste Management
    • Refuse Collection
    • Street Cleansing
    • Environmental Services
    • Municipal Services
  • Experience conducting daily vehicle safety checks.
  • Experience supervising or leading operational teams.
  • Experience working in public-facing environments.
  • Experience using in-cab technology and electronic reporting systems.
  • Strong understanding of road safety and vehicle compliance requirements.

  • Valid Category C (HGV Class 2) Driving Licence.
  • Driver CPC Qualification Card.
  • Ability to drive vehicles from 3.5t up to 7.5t and HGV Class 2 vehicles.
  • Right to Work in the UK.

Additional Information to Note

  • Working hours: 37 hours per week.
  • Shift Pattern:
    • Monday to Friday
    • 14:00 – 22:00
  • Location: Eastcroft Depot, Nottingham.
  • Reason for Hire: Pending Permanent Recruitment.
  • Induction Date: 28th September 2026 (mandatory start date).
  • Telephone interviews scheduled week commencing 21st September 2026.
  • Full PPE required:
    • Orange Hi-Vis Trousers
    • Orange Hi-Vis T-Shirt
    • Orange Hi-Vis Jumper
    • Orange Hi-Vis Coat
    • Orange Waterproof Hi-Vis Clothing
    • Boots and gloves provided by the client.
  • Flexibility required for evenings, weekends, and adverse weather conditions where necessary.
  • We work on bi-weekly payment schedule.
