HGV Class 2 Driver / Team Leader – 3 Month Contract

Important Information
- Induction Date: 3rd August – candidates must be available to start on this date.
- Candidates unable to attend the induction on 3rd August should not apply.
- Telephone interviews will be held at an allocated timeslot.
Summary
This 3-month contract role involves operating HGV Class 2 vehicles and supporting the delivery of environmental and waste services across the city. The successful candidate will drive refuse or operational vehicles safely, supervise crew activities, ensure efficient completion of daily routes, and uphold high standards of safety, cleanliness, and customer service while representing the Council professionally.
Key Responsibilities
HGV Driving & Vehicle Operations
- Operate HGV Class 2 vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and roadworthiness checks.
- Report vehicle defects promptly.
- Maintain compliance with road traffic legislation and Council procedures.
- Operate vehicles responsibly and professionally.
Crew Supervision
- Lead and support a small operational crew.
- Allocate work and provide daily instructions.
- Monitor crew performance and productivity.
- Promote safe working practices at all times.
- Ensure work is completed to service standards and schedules.

Service Delivery
- Deliver environmental services efficiently and safely.
- Complete daily routes within service requirements.
- Respond to operational issues and escalate concerns where required.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout service delivery.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and procedures.
- Promote safe systems of work in public and traffic environments.
- Report accidents, incidents, hazards, and near misses.
- Protect the safety of colleagues, residents, and members of the public.
Customer Service
- Communicate professionally with residents and service users.
- Handle enquiries courteously and effectively.
- Represent the Council positively within the community.
- Maintain high standards of customer care.
Administration & Technology
- Use in-cab systems and associated software to record service delivery.
- Record incidents, defects, missed collections, and operational information.
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Valid Category C (HGV Class 2) Driving Licence.
- Driver CPC Qualification.
- Digital Tachograph Card.
Essential Knowledge
- Knowledge of road traffic legislation and safe driving practices.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Knowledge of vehicle inspections and maintenance checks.
- Understanding of customer service principles.
Essential Experience

- Experience driving HGV Class 2 vehicles.
- Experience carrying out vehicle safety checks.
- Experience in waste management, environmental services, logistics, or similar operational environments.
- Experience supervising or leading small teams.
Desirable Experience
- Previous local authority experience.
- Experience operating refuse collection vehicles.
- Experience using fleet management or in-cab technology systems.

PPE Requirements
Candidates must supply:
- Orange High-Visibility Trousers
- Orange High-Visibility T-Shirt
- Orange High-Visibility Jumper
- Orange High-Visibility Coat
- Orange High-Visibility Waterproofs
Safety boots and gloves will be provided by the client.
Additional Information
- This is a 3-month temporary contract.
- Rate: £20.21 per hour (Umbrella).
- Location: Eastcroft, Nottingham.
- Working Hours: 2:00pm – 10:00pm.
- Pay is provided on a bi-weekly basis.
- Induction on 3rd August is mandatory.
- Valid Class 2 Licence, CPC, and Tachograph Card are essential.
- Previous local authority or environmental services experience is highly desirable.
