Class Teacher – SEND (SEMH) with a Creative Arts or Design Technology Specialism

Main Pay Scale M1–M6 plus £2,679 annual SEN allowance

Job Overview

Full time, term time only

We are looking for a skilled and compassionate class teacher with a creative specialism such as art, music, drama or design technology and the enthusiasm and flexibility to teach across a range of creative and practical subjects.

You may bring particular expertise in one area alongside broader interests and skills in others. You will have the opportunity to help shape our creative provision, enabling pupils to discover their talents, build confidence and take pride in what they can achieve.

Set in the beautiful Alkham Valley near Dover, The Sallygate School is a small independent special school providing highly personalised education for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs and associated SEND. Our pupils are supported by committed education, pupil support and therapy teams working together to help them rebuild confidence, re-engage with learning and achieve meaningful success.

The school is part of the Channels & Choices Therapeutic Community, alongside therapeutic residential children’s homes, an independent therapeutic fostering agency and a multidisciplinary therapy service that includes Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy. This joined-up approach enables us to understand each pupil as an individual and provide the consistent, nurturing and ambitious support they need to thrive.

Experience of working with pupils with SEMH or SEND would be valuable, but it is not essential. We welcome applications from primary, secondary and specialist teachers who are keen to develop their practice in a specialist setting. A comprehensive induction, ongoing training and support from our experienced multidisciplinary team will be provided.

Additional Perks, Rewards And Benefits

  • Private optical, dental and audiological cover.
  • Private medical care.
  • Long service awards for 5, 10 and 15 years’ service.
  • Regular team building days, parties, meals and more.
  • Complimentary health and wellbeing support through our employee assistance programme.
  • A full induction training package.

Job Summary

As a Class Teacher at Sallygate, you will take responsibility for a small class of pupils within our 7–16 provision. You will create a safe, structured and engaging classroom where pupils can rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships and make meaningful academic and personal progress.

Your main responsibility will be to plan and deliver high-quality, personalised teaching across a range of curriculum subjects, informed by each pupil’s starting points, individual needs and EHCP outcomes. Working closely with your class learning mentors, the pupil support team, therapists and other professionals, you will ensure that every pupil receives consistent, ambitious and well-coordinated support.

You will bring particular strengths in a creative or practical subject, alongside the confidence and willingness to contribute to teaching across related areas. Your teaching responsibilities will reflect your expertise and the needs of the school, with support to develop your practice in less familiar subjects.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
