We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly effective and forward-thinking teacher to join our team as a Class Teacher with whole-school responsibility for Curriculum and Assessment.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and ambitious practitioner who is passionate about high-quality teaching and learning and who would like to take on a significant whole-school leadership responsibility.
The successful candidate will initially teach within Year 5/6. However, as with all teaching posts within school, the teaching commitment may change in future according to the needs of the school, and the postholder should therefore be confident and willing to teach across the primary age range.
Alongside their classroom responsibilities, the successful candidate will lead the continued development of our whole-school curriculum and assessment approach. They will work closely with the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and subject leaders to ensure that our curriculum is broad, balanced, ambitious, coherent and inclusive, with clear progression across subjects and phases. They will also take a lead role in ensuring that assessment is purposeful, manageable and used effectively to improve teaching and pupil outcomes.

The role will include supporting subject leaders to develop and evaluate their curriculum areas; monitoring curriculum implementation and impact; leading whole-school assessment and moderation processes; analysing pupil attainment and progress information; supporting statutory assessment arrangements; and using evidence to help identify priorities for school improvement. The role reflects the expectation that teacher-leaders contribute to strategic development while continuing to model excellent classroom practice.
We Are Particularly Interested In Someone Who
- is an excellent and reflective classroom practitioner with high expectations for all pupils;
- has successful experience of leading a curriculum subject or area of school improvement;
- has a strong understanding of curriculum design, progression and sequencing;
- has a secure understanding of formative, diagnostic and summative assessment;
- can confidently analyse assessment information and use this to support improvement;
- has experience of moderation and securing consistency in teacher assessment;
- can inspire, support and appropriately challenge colleagues;
- is highly organised and able to balance class teaching with a significant whole-school responsibility;
- is committed to ensuring that all pupils, including those with SEND or other barriers to learning, have access to an ambitious curriculum; and
- will actively support the Christian vision and values of Slaithwaite CE Junior & Infant School.
We want someone who is excited by curriculum development and who understands that assessment should inform teaching rather than simply generate data. The recent Curriculum and Assessment Review emphasises the importance of a rich and ambitious curriculum for all pupils, alongside a balanced use of formative, diagnostic and summative assessment, and these principles will be central to this role.
