Classic Car Technician / Mechanic
Are you an experienced classic car technician looking for the opportunity to work on some of the world's most iconic motor cars? Perhaps you already work within classic vehicle restoration, a specialist workshop or another area of the heritage automotive industry and are looking for an environment where you can take your skills further.
At Aston Workshop, restoration is at the heart of what we do. We are one of the world's leading independent Aston Martin specialists, with an international reputation for the restoration, preservation and development of Aston Martin vehicles.
From our extensive facilities in the Beamish countryside, our team of more than 40 specialists work on cars spanning the history of the marque, from early pre-war examples through to the DB4, DB5, DB6, DBS and V8 era.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced and detail-focused Restoration Technician to join our established mechanical restoration team.
This isn't routine servicing or high-volume mechanical work. Our restorations can involve hundreds or thousands of hours, taking a vehicle from complete strip-down through to final assembly, testing and completion.
Depending on the project, your work may include:
- Complete mechanical strip-down, rebuild and reassembly of classic vehicles
- Building vehicles from bare painted body through to completed car
- Diagnosis and rectification of mechanical faults
- Inspection, adjustment and setting-up of mechanical systems
- Overhauling and fitting mechanical components and assemblies
- Final vehicle set-up and preparation
- Road testing and quality verification
- Working closely with our engineering, body, paint and trim departments throughout the restoration process
- Maintaining a high standard of workmanship and workshop practice
You'll have the opportunity to follow vehicles through significant stages of their restoration and see your own work contribute to the finished car.

Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with strong mechanical skills who takes genuine pride in producing work to a high standard.
Ideally, you will have:
- Experience within classic car restoration, heritage vehicles or a high-quality specialist automotive environment
- A strong mechanical background with relevant experience and/or qualifications
- Good mechanical knowledge and diagnostic ability
- Experience stripping, rebuilding, fitting and setting up mechanical components
- A meticulous and methodical approach to your work
- Excellent attention to detail
- Practical problem-solving ability
- A genuine interest in classic vehicles and engineering
- The ability to work independently and as part of a skilled team
- Pride in the quality of your own work
Previous Aston Martin experience is not essential.
If your experience is with another classic, prestige or specialist marque, we're much more interested in the skills and standards you've developed than the badge you've previously worked on.

Something Different
Aston Workshop offers the opportunity to become involved in much more than individual mechanical repairs.
Our projects range from sympathetic mechanical restoration and preservation through to complete ground-up restorations and bespoke builds.
You'll work alongside experienced restoration technicians, engineers, panel beaters, painters and other specialists, giving you exposure to the complete restoration process rather than one isolated part of it.
We are also heavily involved in engineering, vehicle development and performance enhancements, providing opportunities for those interested in developing their knowledge beyond traditional restoration work.
Our emphasis is on craftsmanship, accuracy and completing work properly, rather than simply getting the next job through the workshop.
Working Hours & Salary
Working hours are Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, including a 30-minute paid tea break each day.
Paid overtime is available, along with flexible start and finish times to provide greater flexibility around the working day.
Salary is competitive and fully negotiable depending on experience and ability.
The salary figure shown on Indeed represents the minimum starting figure required by the platform and does not represent a cap on the salary available. Experienced candidates and those with specialist restoration skills are encouraged to apply.
