Job Opportunity: Apprentice Fire and Security Installation Engineer

Clayton Fire & Security Ltd (also known as CFS) operate out of Worcester. They specialise in the design, installation, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated fire safety and electronic security systems for commercial and public sector clients. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to recruit a brand new apprentice fire and security installation engineer!

Upon completion of the probation period, the wage will be negotiable based on current experience levels.

Job Description

As an apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians to install, maintain and fault-find on the following systems:

  • Access Control
  • Video Surveillance
  • Intruder Alarms
  • Fire Alarms

What you can expect from the role day to day:

  • You will learn industry installation standards, regulations and best practices
  • Carry out basic installation tasks under supervision
  • Assist with testing of installed cabling and systems
  • Prepare, organise and transport tools, equipment and materials required for projects
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition
  • Work safely and professionally on customer sites at all times
  • Liaise professionally with customers, site personnel and other trades when required
  • Travel throughout the UK as required to support installation projects (including the occasional overnight stay, which is paid at a premium)

Entry Requirements

  • A full UK driving license is essential due to the travel requirements of the role
  • Maths and English at grade 4 GCSE (or equivalent) or above
  • Genuine interest in engineering and technology
  • Strong practical and hands-on approach
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, punctual and professional attitude
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Willingness to travel and stay away from home when required
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to learn
  • Basic IT skills as using computer systems is a part of the role
    • Comfortable working at height and using access equipment
    • Able to undertake manual handling activities associated with installation work
    • Capable of working within construction and live commercial environments whilst following site safety procedures

Training to be Provided

This is where you'll learn the skills that employers actually want.

Your apprenticeship training is delivered by Skills for Security, specialists in fire and security training.

You’ll train through block release at our Walsall centre, for one week every eight weeks (Tuesday–Friday).

You’ll work towards a Level 3 Fire, Emergency & Security Systems Technician apprenticeship, gaining real skills and a nationally recognised qualification.

What you’ll do as part of the programme:

  • Train hands-on with real systems
  • Learn from industry experts
  • Complete a wide range of tasks and projects
  • Build evidence from your job to support your learning
  • Sit annual assessments at the centre
