Clean Water Metering Operative

Job Overview

We are seeking experienced Clean Water Metering Operatives to support a domestic water metering contract across North Wales. This is an excellent opportunity for established utility gangs with experience in water meter installation, excavation and reinstatement who are looking for ongoing price-work opportunities.

The Role

You will work as part of a two-person gang, collecting materials and equipment from the Bodelwyddan yard each day before travelling to properties across the contract area.

Responsibilities

  • Installing external boundary boxes and domestic water meters.
  • Carrying out excavations and preparing installation areas.
  • Backfilling and reinstating surfaces following installation.
  • Completing reinstatement works to the required specification, including tarmac, flags, concrete and unmade ground.
  • Working in line with client procedures, health and safety requirements and quality standards.
  • Completing electronic job sheets and client documentation using a tablet.
  • Loading and unloading materials and equipment as required.
  • Maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach when working at domestic properties.

Essential Requirements

  • EUSR Water Hygiene mandatory for every operative.
  • Previous experience in water utilities or domestic water metering.
  • A full UK driving licence with no more than 3 points.
  • A reliable, hardworking and safety-conscious approach.

Additional Gang Requirements

Each gang must have the following competencies covered:

  • At least one operative with EUSR Cat 1 and Cat 2.
  • At least one operative with Full Streetworks Units 18.
  • At least one operative able to drive and tow a trailer.
  • At least one operative competent in using a tablet and completing client documentation.
  • SHEA Water, Manual Handling, Asbestos Awareness and EUSR Abrasive Wheels are also required. Where permitted, SHEA Water, Asbestos Awareness and EUSR Abrasive Wheels can be obtained after starting work. Manual Handling must be held by each operative.

Pay and Workload

  • £120 per completed boundary box installation, per gang.
  • Planned workload of approximately five installations per day.
  • No formal daily target, although teams are expected to maximize productivity.
  • Gang members agree their own earnings split.
  • Where a team attends a property but cannot complete the work for a demonstrable reason, an aborted-visit payment of £60 per job may be available, subject to supporting evidence and client approval. This is normally shared between gang members.
