About You
As a Cleaner, you will bring to the role:
- Previous cleaning experience
- Awareness of hygiene, health and safety such as using protective clothing and safe handling of cleaning materials
- Positive attitude to cleaning and customer service
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Ability to work as part of a team and act on instructions from supervisors
- Experience in or aptitude to learn the use of mechanical cleaning equipment
- Willingness to take part in training and attend courses as requested
- Willingness to work flexibly across different sites and areas
- A strong understanding of health and safety, risk awareness and safe working practices
- A clear understanding of safeguarding relating to work with children and vulnerable people
About The Role
As our next Cleaner, you'll play an important part in helping us deliver a healthy, safe and welcoming environment for people of all ages and from all communities.
Based primarily at Herd Farm Residential and Activity Centre, you'll join a busy and friendly team supporting visitors who come to enjoy outdoor activities and residential experiences throughout the year. The cleaner is vital to the success of the centre, helping to maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation, while ensuring every visitor has a positive experience.
We are looking for a reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic individual who takes pride in their work. You will be responsible for cleaning a wide range of areas across the site, maintaining high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and presentation, and carrying out occasional high-level cleaning and maintenance tasks as required.
Your safety and wellbeing are important to us. We will provide full site-specific training, along with all necessary cleaning equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE), to help you carry out your role safely and effectively. Everything we do is underpinned by our commitment to health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion, and safeguarding.
This is a hands-on and physically active role. You will need to be able to undertake manual handling activities, move equipment and furniture, work both indoors and outdoors, and respond flexibly to the changing demands of a busy residential and activity centre.
Shift pattern for the role: 9am – 3pm Monday to Friday. We offer this role on a term-time basis (39 weeks per year) plus 5 days.
The role is primarily based at Herd Farm Residential & Activity Centre, although you may on occasion be asked to work and support other Leeds City Council sites.

Job Description
Job purpose:
Responsible for cleaning in Leeds City Council’s Activity Centres. To maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation, helping to create a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment for all visitors and staff, while contributing to excellent customer experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain a safe environment in accordance with health and safety policy and legislation.
- Clean designated areas across the buildings, outbuildings, and grounds.
- Use of manual and mechanical cleaning equipment.
- Handle, use of and store cleaning materials in accordance with recommended health and safety procedures.
- Clean and tidy in all areas including toilet/hygiene areas, bedrooms, corridors, landings, staircases, entrances, activity rooms, offices; vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, emptying bins and other tasks as required.
- High level cleaning, washing of walls, windows, glass using appropriate equipment.
- Carry out deep cleaning and special cleaning procedures.
- Launder and turnaround of all bedding and linen, ensuring availability for arriving guests and centre operations.
- Collect and dispose of waste appropriately and sustainably.
- Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, ensuring stock levels are sufficient and assisting with the ordering of cleaning products and equipment as required.
- Wear appropriate protective clothing including rubber gloves.
- Work to operational specifications and quality assurance work schedules, completing all relevant Health & Safety records.
- Basic repairs and maintenance.
- Work as part of a team and act on instructions from senior staff.
- Assist customers in a positive manner.
- Flexible and adaptable to change to assist other services as required commensurate to grade.

- The hours of work are primarily determined by the needs of the service.

Qualifications:

Knowledge Required
- A strong understanding of health and safety, risk awareness and safe working practices
- Understanding of responsibilities in terms of security, confidentiality, and data protection.
- A clear understanding of safeguarding relating to work with children and vulnerable people.
Experience Required
- Previous cleaning experience, preferably in a similar commercial setting.
