We are seeking a diligent and safety-conscious Cleaner to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene within our rail maintenance facility. You will play a critical role in ensuring our operational areas—including maintenance sheds, workshops, inspection pits, and maintenance roads—are kept in a safe, clean, and functional condition to support our engineering teams.
- Rate of Pay: £13.45 per hour
- Position Type: Permanent
- Type of Employment: Full Time
- Hours: 42 hours per week
- Shift Pattern: 4 on 2 off shift pattern over 7 Days 6:00am - 2:00pm & 2:00pm - 10:00pm, 8 hours per shift
- Location: Hitachi, Deadmans Lane, Derby, England DE24 8BS
Key Responsibilities
- Specialised Cleaning: Perform deep cleaning and routine maintenance across high-traffic rail environments, specifically targeting maintenance sheds, workshops, inspection pits, and maintenance roads.
- Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently operate industrial cleaning equipment, including sit-and-ride floor scrubbers and heavy-duty pressure washers, to ensure optimal facility standards.
- Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to site safety protocols, including the management and completion of all necessary work permits before commencing tasks in restricted areas.
- Operational Awareness: Demonstrate a sound understanding of rail safety requirements, including Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) awareness and adherence to Local Track Safety Awareness (LTSA) procedures at all times.
- Reporting: Proactively identify and report any facility hazards, maintenance issues, or equipment faults to the site supervisor to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively alongside engineering and maintenance staff to ensure cleaning schedules align with operational requirements and shift patterns.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in an industrial or heavy-duty cleaning role is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to operate industrial machinery (sit-and-ride floor cleaners and pressure washers).
- Demonstrable understanding of safety-critical environments; rail industry experience is a significant advantage.
- Strong commitment to health and safety, with a clear understanding of permit-to-work systems.
- Knowledge of OLE and LTSA safety standards (or a willingness to undertake immediate training and certification).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
