Description
Job Purpose
The Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic working environment across all designated areas of the business. The role supports the health, safety, and wellbeing of employees, visitors, and customers by ensuring high standards of cleanliness are consistently achieved.
Responsibilities And Key
Cleaning Direction
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all designated areas of the site.
- Ensure cleaning activities support a safe, professional, and compliant working environment.
- Prioritise cleaning requirements in line with operational needs and Company standards.
- Promote a clean and organised workplace that supports employee wellbeing and operational efficiency.
Cleaning Operations
- Clean offices, meeting rooms, welfare facilities, kitchens, washrooms, and communal areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, polish, and maintain floors and surfaces as required.
- Clean and sanitise toilets, washrooms, touchpoints, and high-use areas.
- Empty waste bins and dispose of waste in accordance with Company procedures.
Facilities & Equipment Management
- Replenish consumables including soap, toilet tissue, paper towels, and cleaning supplies.
- Ensure cleaning equipment is used, maintained, and stored correctly.
- Carry out routine checks of cleaning materials and report shortages when identified.
- Support deep-cleaning activities and additional cleaning requirements as required.

- Work safely and in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment in line with training and manufacturers' instructions.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Maintain safe working practices and ensure work areas are left clean and free from hazards.
- Comply with COSHH requirements and all relevant Health & Safety legislation.
Inspection & Reporting
- Conduct regular checks of allocated areas to ensure required cleanliness standards are maintained.
- Identify and report maintenance issues, damaged equipment, or facility defects.
- Escalate concerns relating to hygiene, safety, or cleaning standards to the appropriate manager.
- Complete cleaning schedules and records as required.
Continuous Improvement
- Take responsibility for maintaining high cleaning standards at all times.
- Respond positively to feedback and implement agreed improvements.
- Support colleagues and contribute to an effective team environment.
- Participate in training and development activities to maintain skills and knowledge relevant to the role.
Typical Knowledge & Skills
- Previous experience within a cleaning, facilities, housekeeping, or site services environment.
- Experience supervising or coordinating a team.
- Good understanding of cleaning standards, hygiene requirements, and best practices.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and manage competing demands.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate, support, and develop team members.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
- Competent in completing records, reports, and cleaning schedules.
- Reliable, professional, and customer focused.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to make day-to-day operational decisions.

Qualifications And Previous Experience
- Good attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Ability to follow instructions and cleaning schedules.
- Good communication skills.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
Desirable
- Previous cleaning experience in a commercial, manufacturing, warehouse, or office environment.
- Knowledge of COSHH and safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Experience using commercial cleaning equipment.
Additional Notes
- The role requires regular physical activity including standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, and the operation of cleaning equipment.
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn where required.
- Working hours: Rotating Two Shift Pattern 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm. Flexibility for change required.
- The postholder may be required to undertake additional duties within the scope of the role as reasonably requested by management.
- The Company reserves the right to amend the duties and responsibilities of this role in line with business needs.
