Full Job Description

Job Title: School Cleaner

Location: Avonside School, Bristol BS4 5PS

Hours: 20 hours per week | Monday to Friday | 1.15pm – 5.15pm

Salary: £11,819.00 per annum (£13.25 per hour, not pro rata)

Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

Start: October 2026

About the Role

Looking for a part-time role with consistent weekday hours and your mornings and weekends free? Avonside School is looking for a reliable and hardworking School Cleaner to join our friendly team and help us maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for our pupils and colleagues.

Working Monday to Friday from 1.15pm to 5.15pm, this permanent, term-time-only position could be ideal if you’re looking for regular hours that fit around other commitments.

You don’t need previous school cleaning experience to apply. What matters most is that you’re dependable, take pride in your work and are committed to maintaining high standards.

As part of our Facilities Team, you’ll play an important role in making sure our school is a place where pupils can learn and thrive.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Carry out daily cleaning across classrooms, communal areas and other parts of the school.
  • Clean floors, surfaces, fixtures, fittings and internal areas to a high standard.
  • Maintain excellent levels of hygiene in toilets, changing areas and sanitary facilities.
  • Empty bins and dispose of waste safely and appropriately.
  • Replenish essential supplies including soap, paper towels and toilet tissue.
  • Keep cleaning equipment and materials clean, organised and stored safely.
  • Complete occasional deep-cleaning and additional cleaning tasks when required.
  • Work alongside the wider Site and Facilities Team to ensure the school remains clean, safe and welcoming.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is reliable, trustworthy and takes pride in doing a job well.
  • Has a positive attitude and a good eye for detail.
  • Can work confidently on their own as well as part of a team.
  • Is able to follow instructions and established cleaning routines.
  • Is flexible and willing to help with different tasks when required.
  • Is committed to maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Previous cleaning experience would be helpful, but it isn’t essential. If you have the right attitude and a commitment to high standards, we’d love to hear from you.
