About the role
We’re looking for a reliable and hardworking Cleaning Assistant to join our Venue Operations team.
This role will be primarily focused on cleaning and preparing our event rooms, helping to ensure these important spaces are consistently clean, welcoming and ready for the wide range of events held at St. James’ Park.
You’ll take pride in maintaining high standards across your allocated areas, working independently and alongside colleagues to deliver an excellent experience for guests, visitors and colleagues. You may also provide additional cleaning support across the stadium, including before, during and after home matches and other events.

What you’ll do
You’ll:
- Clean, prepare and maintain event rooms and associated areas to a consistently high standard.
- Carry out general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and maintaining floors.
- Use cleaning equipment safely and correctly, including completing manual-handling activities where necessary.
- Complete daily, weekly and monthly cleaning tasks efficiently and with minimal supervision.
- Deliver excellent customer service and communicate positively with colleagues.
- Provide cleaning support before, during and after home matches and other events held at the stadium.
- Follow all relevant health and safety requirements, Club policies and working procedures.
About you
You’ll have previous experience in a cleaning or similar role and take genuine pride in delivering high standards.
You’ll be able to manage your time effectively, work confidently with minimal supervision and contribute positively as part of a wider team. Strong communication skills, reliability and a helpful, approachable manner will also be important.
As our events and fixtures can take place outside standard working hours, you’ll need the flexibility to work home matchdays and other scheduled events, including some evenings, weekends and public holidays.
A relevant cleaning qualification, such as an NVQ Level 2, and industry training in areas such as COSHH would be great, although these are not essential.
