Clerical Officer/Reception Team Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and well-organised individual to join the Clerical Officer/Reception Team at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre, Northern General Hospital.

About the Role

As a key member of the team, you will play an essential role in supporting our clinical colleagues and ensuring the smooth running of outpatient clinics and reception services. This varied and rewarding post involves providing high-quality clerical and administrative support to consultants, specialist nurses, patients, and visitors, helping us deliver the highest standard of care.

You will be the first point of contact for patients and staff, managing appointments, preparing clinic documentation, maintaining accurate patient records, and ensuring clinics are fully supported and well-coordinated. The role requires strong communication skills, excellent organisation, and a caring, professional approach.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced clinical environment, values teamwork, and is looking to develop their skills within a supportive and friendly administrative team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a friendly, welcoming, and efficient reception service for patients, visitors, and staff attending the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre.
  • Support the smooth running of outpatient clinics by preparing attendance packs, locating patient notes, managing clinic lists, and ensuring all documentation is accurate and available on time.
  • Book, amend, and confirm patient appointments in line with Trust and national guidelines, ensuring all clinical activity is recorded promptly and accurately on the Trust’s patient administration systems.
  • Proactively monitor clinic status, including cancellations, reductions, and non-attendance, escalating issues where required to maintain safe and effective service delivery.
  • Communicate professionally with clinical teams, including consultants, junior doctors, nursing staff, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Carry out general administrative duties, including managing correspondence, updating patient records, filing and arranging scanning to EDMS.
  • Ensure all patients are placed on the appropriate waiting or review lists so that no patients are lost to follow-up and all pathways are accurately maintained.
  • Contribute to the wider administrative team by providing cover for colleagues, supporting service improvements, and assisting in the induction of new staff.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
