Role Overview
Your role will include conducting interim site inspections on behalf of the managing Surveyor, to inspect ongoing works on insurance reinstatement projects for quality control, compliance, measurement, and cost tracking purposes. You will also provide professional surveying services from your home office supporting the managing Surveyor with aspects such as production of meeting minutes, interim valuations, certification, and general project assistance.
You will be a key stakeholder in delivering projects on time, on budget, with a happy customer, and will be joining an industry leader with scope for significant career development.
Role Purpose
The Clerk of Works supports the delivery of high-quality construction and insurance reinstatement projects by providing on-site inspection, and compliance monitoring, as well as assisting with surveying and cost management activities. The role bridges technical oversight with office-based surveying tasks to ensure projects meet design specifications, statutory requirements, and quality standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Site Inspections & Quality Control
- Carry out regular site visits to monitor workmanship, quality of materials, and progress against agreed specifications and programmes of works.
- Identify, record, and report any deviations from design, quality, or safety standards and ensure these are addressed by the contractor in conjunction with the Surveyor/Contract Administrator who has overall responsibility for the project.
- Liaise with contractors to address and resolve defects, non-compliance issues, and ensure snagging issues are resolved.
- Maintain detailed photographic and written records of inspections.

Surveying & Contract Administration
- Assist the managing Surveyor with Contract Administration duties, such as minuting meetings, advising on valuations, preparing contract certificates, etc.
- Complete site measurements for valuations, variations, and cost control.
- Support preparation of schedule of works and schedules of condition.
- Contribute to the preparation of schedules of work, cost estimates, and project budgets.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare clear and concise site reports for internal use and client updates.
- Maintain claim/project files and records in accordance with company procedures.
- Assist in reviewing project handover documentation and final accounts.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with surveyors, project coordinators, and contractors to ensure all stakeholders are kept informed of developments.
- Build positive working relationships with policyholders, Adjusters, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Support health, safety, and environmental compliance on site.

Skills & Attributes
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent time/diary management skills, and able to work in an agile manner to prioritize urgent requests as and when they arise.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings.
- Organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Basic knowledge of building regulations, construction processes, and surveying methods.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly to property sites and other locations as required, across the designated region.
Desirable
- Site-based experience preferred but not essential.
- Working towards (or commitment to work towards) a relevant qualification in Building Surveying, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Membership of, or progress towards membership of, the Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI).
- Competent in Microsoft Office and familiarity with scheduling software (Symbility, Xact) an advantage.
Progression
This role offers the opportunity to develop towards a full Building Surveyor position, with structured training, mentorship, and exposure to both site and office-based surveying work.
