Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council
We are looking for a dedicated Clerk of Works - Fire to join our Assets and Compliance Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring that fire safety improvement works and capital projects across our housing portfolio are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
As the Council's Clerk of Works for Fire Safety projects, you will be responsible for inspecting, monitoring, and reporting on works undertaken by contractors, helping to ensure that residents' homes remain safe and that all fire safety installations comply with statutory requirements and industry standards.
Reporting to the Senior Clerk of Works, you will:
- Undertake site inspections to ensure works comply with specifications, designs, contract requirements, and legislation.
- Inspect fire doors, compartmentation, fire alarms, emergency lighting, and other fire safety systems.
- Witness testing and commissioning activities to verify installations are safe and operating correctly.
- Monitor workmanship, materials, and installation standards.
- Identify defects, poor workmanship, and non-compliance, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, photographic evidence, and site reports.
- Monitor contractor performance and programme delivery.
- Support planned maintenance, refurbishment, and fire safety improvement projects.
- Liaise with tenants, residents, contractors, and project teams to help deliver successful outcomes.
- Promote high standards of health and safety and quality assurance across all projects.

We are looking for someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and the confidence to challenge poor standards when necessary.
You will have:
- Experience as a Clerk of Works, Site Inspector, or similar role within construction, maintenance, or property services.
- Experience inspecting fire safety installations and assessing compliance with specifications and standards.
- Experience working on fire safety systems within housing or construction environments.
- Experience witnessing testing and commissioning of fire systems.
- NVQ Level 4 qualification in a fire-related discipline.
- Good knowledge of building construction and associated trades.
- Strong understanding of fire systems and compliance certification.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A high level of attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
