Client Accountant / Manager

Location: North London (100% office based)

Firm: Established accountancy practice and member of a Top 20 accountancy network

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Our client is an established accountancy practice based in North London. The firm is led by three partners and is part of a Top 20 accountancy network, combining the support and resources of a national organisation with the close-knit culture of a local practice. Due to continued growth, the firm is looking to appoint an experienced Client Accountant / Manager.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accounts and managing the day-to-day requirements of a portfolio of more than 50 SME clients. This is a hands-on, office-based role suited to someone with strong accounts preparation experience who is comfortable managing deadlines, communicating with clients and supporting junior members of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare year-end accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.
  • Prepare corporation tax returns and supporting computations.
  • Manage a portfolio of more than 50 SME clients.
  • Act as a main point of contact for clients and respond to day-to-day queries.
  • Ensure accounts and tax work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Review bookkeeping records and resolve any outstanding queries.
  • Liaise with HMRC and other external parties where required.
  • Support and review the work of junior team members.
  • Keep partners updated on client work, deadlines and any issues.
  • Assist with management accounts, VAT returns and personal tax work where required.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience working within an accountancy practice.
  • Strong experience preparing statutory accounts for SME clients.
  • Good knowledge of corporation tax and UK accounting requirements.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients.
  • Confident communicating directly with business owners.
  • Organised and able to manage a busy workload and multiple deadlines.
  • ACA or ACCA qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience.
  • Experience using accountancy software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, IRIS or similar.
