About the Role
Are you a commercially astute business growth leader who understands how to win complex consultancy work? Do you thrive at the intersection of market strategy, client engagement, and commercial delivery? Are you ready to shape the future of power, energy, and renewables within one of the UK's leading environmental consultancies?
At APEM, we're looking for a strategic and commercially minded Client Growth Director to lead our Power & Renewables growth agenda across the UK & Ireland. This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll help define where we play, how we win, and how we continue to strengthen our position as a trusted partner to some of the energy sector's most influential organizations.
This role is much more than traditional business development. We're looking for someone who truly understands the consultancy work-winning cycle, from identifying market opportunities and shaping client strategies through to capture planning, bid leadership, and long-term account growth. You'll bring the commercial awareness, critical thinking, and strategic insight needed to ensure APEM's science, technology, and environmental expertise is positioned in the right places, with the right clients, at the right time.
You'll be someone clients seek out for insight, advice, and partnership. Through your understanding of market dynamics and client challenges, you'll help APEM build deeper relationships with developers, utilities, infrastructure providers, and strategic partners. You'll create and drive a clear growth strategy that aligns our technical expertise with future market demand, ensuring we're not only winning the right work today but identifying the opportunities that will define tomorrow. Using strong commercial judgment, you'll shape robust pipelines, influence major pursuits, and support winning strategies that deliver real value for both clients and APEM.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
