About Thomas Emlyn
Thomas Emlyn is a specialist accountancy firm working exclusively with ambitious construction business owners. Our Virtual Finance Department gives clients everything a high-performing in-house finance team would, including bookkeeping, payroll, CIS, VAT, compliance, management reporting and strategic advice, without the cost of building one.
We help our clients improve margins, take control of cash flow, build the systems and processes they need to scale, and step back from the day-to-day so they can run their business as a CEO. Our service is premium, and we back it with a money-back guarantee.
The Role
As a Client Portfolio Manager, you'll own a portfolio of construction-sector clients and be their trusted point of contact. You'll build strong, long-term relationships, lead a capable support team, and make sure every client receives accurate, timely work and genuinely useful insight.
This is a role for someone who wants more than compliance. You'll sit down with business owners to talk about their goals, their numbers and how to grow, and you'll be supported to develop your advisory skills along the way.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
