The Role

The Client Manager will manage a portfolio of small to medium-sized clients, delivering high-quality compliance and advisory services with minimal Partner supervision.

This broad, client-facing role combines technical expertise, portfolio ownership, commercial awareness and team leadership. The focus will be on managing client relationships, reviewing and delegating work, and proactively identifying opportunities to add value.

Key Responsibilities

Client Management and Advisory

  • Manage a portfolio of clients as their main point of contact
  • Lead onboarding, review meetings and ongoing communications
  • Build strong relationships and deliver excellent client service
  • Provide practical, commercially focused advice
  • Identify tax-planning and wider advisory opportunities

Accounts, Tax and Workflow

  • Oversee and review statutory accounts and financial statements
  • Review corporate and personal tax returns
  • Ensure work is accurate, compliant and completed on time
  • Manage personal and team workflows, budgets and deadlines
  • Monitor chargeability and recoverability
  • Manage changes in scope and negotiate fees where appropriate
  • Contribute to process improvements and ad hoc projects

Team Leadership

  • Review work completed by trainees and junior colleagues
  • Delegate effectively to support development and efficiency
  • Coach team members and provide constructive feedback
  • Contribute to performance and development reviews
  • Act as a positive role model across the team

Business Development

  • Identify opportunities with existing and prospective clients
  • Contribute to the continued growth of the practice
  • Build and maintain a strong professional network

About You

  • ACA or ACCA qualified, or equivalent
  • Strong accountancy practice experience
  • Proven experience managing a client portfolio
  • Sound knowledge of accounts preparation, tax compliance and planning
  • Confident reviewing work and supporting junior team members
  • Excellent organisational, communication and relationship-building skills
  • Commercially aware, proactive and solutions focused
  • Experience in business development, advisory work or an established sector specialism would be advantageous.
