Client Monitoring & Payment Sanction Screening Manager
About the job
The Operations department is responsible for ensuring the complete end-to-end processing of the Bank’s transactions and services. They are responsible for ensuring that the appropriate control framework exists to ensure the accuracy of this processing as well as the recording of this in the Bank’s books and records. Operations are also responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of the Bank’s transactions to multiple regulatory stakeholders globally.
The KYC team plays an integral part in the governance of client risk management. The team is made up of three functions, KYC Co-ordination, Client Verification & Screening and Quality Control. The Monitoring Team Manager works closely with the EDD and FCCA Compliance Teams, helping to act as a control in the prevention, monitoring and investigation of money laundering, terrorist financing, ABC, embargoes, sanctions and fraud.
What you’ll be doing
The prime purpose of the role is to manage the Client Monitoring and Payment screening functions within the Bank’s Client Management Unit (CMU) and Operations departments respectively. For both functions the role holder will be responsible for:
- Maintaining an effective operating model for monitoring and screening including alert adjudication, escalation interaction with key stakeholders such as Global Markets;
- Ensuring that the Bank performs its monitoring and screening in line with regulatory and internal requirements as advised by the Bank’s Financial Crime function;
- Ensuring the Bank’s monitoring and screening tools are operating efficiently through the reduction of false alerts to within tolerable levels;
- Leading and managing the Client Monitoring and Payment screening team;
- Delivering the strategy for Client Monitoring and Payment screening team;
- Managing the Client Monitoring and Payment screening team within the budget allocated by the Heads of CMU and Operations;
- Ensuring that staff and processes within Client Monitoring and Payment screening team works effectively and efficiently;
- Ensuring that there is adequate governance over the Bank’s Client Monitoring and Payment screening obligations and performance;
- Ensuring that the service provided by the Client Monitoring and Payment screening team to internal and external clients is delivered to an excellent standard;
- Leading the Client Monitoring and Payment screening team in working collaboratively and effectively with other Operations and CMU teams in all global locations to enable excellent service to be delivered by the Operations department to internal and external clients;
- Ensuring that Client Monitoring and Payment screening team works collaboratively with other departments in the Bank, particularly in the global coverage of Payments Sanctions Screening processes and controls;
- Ensure an effective and collaborative working relationship with the Financial Crime function;
- Balancing Client Monitoring and Payment screening team compliance/acquiescence with stakeholder requests with some degree of respectful challenge to stakeholder requests;
- Working closely and collaboratively with Technology colleagues and service providers to ensure that systems relied on by the Client Monitoring and Payment screening team are fit for purpose;
- Identifying and managing risks within the Client Monitoring and Payment screening team including operational risks, regulatory risks, conduct risks, cyber security risks and financial crime risks (including, but not limited to, risks associated with money laundering, terrorist financing, bribery and corruption, sanctions breaches and fraud);
- Ensuring that 4-eye QA is always performed to the highest standards and operated as an effective first line of defence;
- Providing line management support to direct reports in the Client Monitoring and Payment screening team.

What you’ll need to be successful
We’re looking for the following skills and experience. If you don’t have all of these but think you could be a good fit for the role, get in touch.
- Experience with managing people, teams and setting clear and measurable objectives;
- Previous monitoring and screening experience using systems such as Fircosoft, Dow Jones, Alacra, World Check and Lexis Nexis;
- Relevant AML, Client Due Diligence, Sanctions, ABC, CTF and/ or anti-fraud working experience;
- Experienced in writing high level reports;
- A current understanding of UK AML requirements including JMLSG Guidance Notes, the Money Laundering Regulations, the Proceeds of Crime Act, the Terrorism Act and other relevant sanctions screening requirements and processes;
- Experience with adhering to strict procedures;
- Understanding of risk and control processes;
- Knowledge of emerging markets and global payment systems;
- IT literate (Word, Excel) and able to quickly adapt to new software systems;
- Effective communication and presentation skills;
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
