Our client is a growing specialist medical communications agency seeking an experienced Client Services Director to join its senior leadership team.

This is a senior agency-wide leadership position for an exceptional Client Services leader who can combine strategic client partnership, commercial leadership, people development and operational excellence.

The Client Services Director will have overall responsibility for the performance and development of the Client Services function, ensuring the agency delivers consistently high-quality work, builds enduring client relationships and achieves its commercial objectives.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Agency Head, the Client Services Director will provide agency-wide leadership across Client Services, overseeing a portfolio of key accounts and senior account leaders while setting the standards, processes and culture that underpin excellent client delivery.

The role will combine strategic oversight with hands-on senior leadership. You will work closely with the Agency Head and wider senior leadership team to shape business strategy, commercial performance, resource planning, talent development and succession planning. You will also act as a senior figurehead with key clients, helping to build long-term partnerships, identify opportunities for growth and represent the agency at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Client Services function, setting clear standards for client service, account management and operational excellence.
  • Lead and develop Client Services Team Leads, Senior Account Directors and other senior account leadership colleagues.
  • Establish consistent approaches to account management, resource planning, financial management and client delivery.
  • Represent Client Services within the senior leadership team and contribute to wider agency strategy.
  • Act as a senior ambassador for the agency internally and externally.
  • Lead, coach and develop senior Client Services leaders, ensuring they have the capability to lead their own teams effectively.
  • Establish clear KPIs, objectives and development plans across the function in partnership with HR.
  • Oversee performance management and address underperformance proactively and constructively.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and retention of senior Client Services talent.
  • Provide oversight of major accounts, programmes and client relationships across the agency.
  • Ensure programmes, projects and events are delivered to the highest professional and quality standards.
  • Take overall responsibility for Client Services financial performance in partnership with the Agency Head and Finance team.
  • Oversee budgets, forecasting, utilisation, profitability and financial reporting across the function.
  • Play a leading role in new business strategy, pitches and proposals.
  • Partner with the Agency Head and wider senior leadership to identify and pursue strategic growth opportunities.
  • Build and maintain senior relationships across the pharmaceutical and medical affairs community.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
