Team: Public Health
Job Family: Providing – CBG7
Salary: £28,598 - £31,022 per annum pro rata
Hours: 37 hours per week - Mon – Fri 9:00am – 5:00pm with occasional evening and Saturday’s depending on service need.
Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed and for training to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per week.
Contract Type: Hybrid – 1-year fixed term / Secondment
Closing Date: 30th August 2026
Interview Date: 7th or 8th September 2026


The Public Health Team works collaboratively across Central Bedfordshire, Bedford Borough, and Milton Keynes Councils to promote health and wellbeing for all, and to reduce preventable ill health. Our Central Bedfordshire-based team leads and commissions services in:

  • Stop Smoking and Tobacco Control
  • Healthy Weight
  • Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Prevention
  • 0–19 Healthy Child Programme

About the Role

As a Client Services Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of our Integrated Behaviour Change Service – Choose You. You will work with a wide range of stakeholders, including:

  • Staff within Bedford Borough, Milton Keynes, and Central Bedfordshire Councils.
  • Residents, workers, and students across the three local authority areas.
  • Primary Care Providers.
  • Community and Voluntary Sector Organisations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with clients who may have complex needs, processing referrals, booking appointments, and responding to frontline enquiries.
  • Responsible for responding to inbound telephone enquiries and proactively contacting clients to arrange appointments for Choose You services.
  • Managing venue bookings and clinic administration.
  • Following triage processes to direct service users to the most appropriate support.
  • Providing high-level business and administrative support to Public Health, including issuing agendas and taking accurate meeting notes.
  • Supporting projects and deliverables from the team’s programme of work, maintaining accurate records.
  • Assisting with finance and billing processes.

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Hold a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with the public.
  • A clear and professional telephone manner.
  • Previous experience in a customer service or client-facing role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced administrative environment.
  • Ability to travel independently to Shefford and across Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire, and Milton Keynes for training and team collaboration.

This role is being offered on a fixed term basis and will cease when the project it is supporting is completed which is expected to last approximately 12 months. The Council cannot guarantee you any minimum or maximum period of employment.
