Our Industrial Placement scheme offers ambitious and capable undergraduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience working alongside diverse and highly skilled experts in their field. You'll be working on projects that really matter and will make a difference. Observations are fundamental to almost all the services that the Met Office provides - as direct data and products; for initialising Numerical Weather Prediction and other models; for verification of forecasts; as the basis for many weather / climate related consultancy services and for monitoring the UK as well as the global climate. Key to ensuring the quality and understanding the characteristics of this data, is assessing the local conditions under which data is taken. This is not only an important consideration in collecting today's data but has a heightened importance in assessing our long term time series of observations. This information is collectively described as Observational metadata and takes a variety of forms including photographs, maps, communications, inspection reports and digitised database fields. Some early forms of metadata exist in the Met Office Archives dating back to 1900 and these records represent rich evidence to the local conditions and history of the sites, instruments and UK network. This opportunity will also include being part of an operational team providing live Observational data to the Met Office products and services, with opportunities to experience and contribute to a wider range of activities In addition to the scientific impact on data, these sources of metadata also provide important accounts which should aid celebration of these historic partnerships, becoming part of our internal and external communications.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
