TriageLens Clinical Advisor
TriageLens is an early-stage clinical workflow and triage support platform being developed for UK optical practices.
The platform is intended to help reception teams, optical consultants, and clinical staff collect structured symptom information, identify potential red flags, support urgency grading, and produce clearer handover notes for optometrists.
TriageLens does not diagnose conditions, replace professional clinical judgement, or make autonomous referral decisions.
Role Overview
We are looking for a UK-registered optometrist to act as an initial Clinical Advisor and review the clinical content, safety boundaries, and escalation logic used within the first version of the platform.
This is a focused, paid consultancy project rather than a permanent employment role.
Initial Review Scope
The successful advisor will review the first three proposed triage pathways:
- Sudden vision loss or sudden vision change
- Flashes and floaters
- Painful red eye
The review will include:
- Questions presented to optical practice staff
- Red-flag symptoms and combinations
- Proposed urgency categories
- Escalation recommendations
- Safety-net wording
- Clinical handover templates
- Potentially unsafe, unclear, or misleading wording
- Missing questions or escalation triggers
- Boundaries between staff-led triage and clinician decision-making

Key Responsibilities
- Review TriageLens clinical content from an optometrist’s perspective
- Identify clinical safety risks, omissions, and ambiguous wording
- Recommend amendments to question flows and escalation rules
- Confirm whether the content is appropriate for further prototype development
- Help ensure the platform supports triage without presenting itself as a diagnostic tool
- Participate in one remote review meeting
- Provide written feedback against a structured review document
- Confirm which materials have been reviewed and whether any required changes remain outstanding
Deliverables
The initial engagement is expected to include:
- Review of three draft symptom pathways
- Written comments and suggested amendments
- One remote discussion lasting approximately 60 to 90 minutes
- Review of revised wording following agreed amendments
- A signed, version-specific review record confirming what was reviewed, the changes requested, and whether the reviewed materials are suitable to progress to controlled prototype or pilot testing.
The review record will not require the advisor to guarantee that the product is risk-free or assume responsibility for its future operation.

Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be registered with the General Optical Council as an optometrist
- Have current or recent UK clinical practice experience
- Understand urgent eye presentations and optical referral pathways
- Be comfortable reviewing clinical questions, red flags, and escalation wording
- Be able to provide clear, practical written feedback
- Understand that the product is a workflow-support tool rather than a diagnostic replacement
Public Advisor Acknowledgment
Subject to separate written agreement, the selected advisor may be invited to:
- Be named as a Clinical Advisor to TriageLens
- Have their professional name and credentials shown on the TriageLens website, LinkedIn page, or supporting materials
- Continue providing occasional paid clinical review as the product develops
Permission to use the advisor’s name, credentials, or image will be documented separately and can be withdrawn in accordance with the agreement.
Time Commitment
The initial project is expected to require approximately 3 to 4 hours in total, including document review, a remote meeting, and review of amendments.
Further work may be offered separately as the product develops.
