Clinical Assessor/Functional Specialist – Belfast Registered Nurse, Paramedic, Occupational Therapist, or Physiotherapist
About the Role

We are recruiting for a Clinical Assessor/Functional Specialist role to work either fully clinic-based or hybrid (2 days at home) at our well-connected Belfast clinic (24 Linenhall Street, BT2 8BG). Ideally suited for registered nurses, paramedics, occupational therapists, or physiotherapists looking to transition away from shift work, this structured and flexible role redefines your impact from hands-on care to evidence-based assessments and clinical recommendations.
Your duties will involve:
- Meeting with benefits claimants in person, via video call, or by telephone
- Writing in-depth, high-quality reports (3,000–4,000 words)
- Making critical clinical recommendations that support the Department for Communities (DfC)’s decisions

Responsibilities
As the Clinical Assessor/Functional Specialist, your key tasks include:
- Conducting structured assessments to evaluate how a claimant’s health condition impacts their daily life, ability to work, or work-related activities
- Analysing clinical evidence alongside supporting documentation to produce fair, evidence-based recommendations
- Completing 2–5 assessments daily (face-to-face, video call, or phone)
- Producing comprehensive written reports with clear clinical justification
- Continuously expanding expertise on varied conditions and their impact on work ability

About You (Key Requirements)
To thrive in this role, you must meet the following:
Qualifications & Experience
- NMC-registered Nurse (RGN, RMN, or RNLD) with a valid PIN and no current restrictions, OR HCPC-registered Paramedic, Occupational Therapist, or Physiotherapist with a valid PIN and no current restrictions, OR GMC-registered Doctor with a valid PIN and no restrictions.
- Minimum one year of post-registration experience.
- A driving licence or reliable transportation for clinic-based assessments.
Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional report-writing ability (clear, accurate, and detailed).
- Proficiency in meeting structured targets under pressure.
- Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office and adaptability to remote systems).
- Outstanding observational and communication skills, including the ability to listen empathetically and dig deeper.
- Capacity to work flexibly within a government regulatory environment.

Compensation & Working Hours
- Starting salary: £39,500 (rising to £40,500 after approval).
- 10% salary bonus scheme (tied to quality and performance).
- Flexible hours: Full- or part-time (minimum 3 days per week).
- Monday–Friday (8am–5pm), with no weekend or night shifts (occasional 8pm finishes may arise).
