Clinical Assessor/Functional Specialist – Hybrid Role
About Capita HAAS
Capita delivers the Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS) on behalf of the government, supporting individuals applying for benefits including:
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Universal Credit (UC)

About the Role
As a Clinical Assessor/Functional Specialist, you’ll apply your clinical expertise in a new way:
- Conduct assessments (face-to-face, video link, or phone) with benefits claimants
- Write detailed analytical reports (3,000–4,000 words)
- Provide clinical recommendations to the DWP
- Work in a structured, flexible environment with prioritised wellbeing
Ideal for registered nurses, paramedics, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists looking to transition away from shift work.
What We Offer
Workplace Excellence
- Hybrid working (home/clinic-based, up to 3 days per week)
- Flexible hours: Monday–Friday (8:00am–5:00pm) with no weekend or night shifts (occasional 8pm finishes may be required)
- Salaried roles: minimum 3 days per week (full or part-time)
Compensation
- Starting salary: £39,500 (with DWP approval, progressive rise to £40,500)
- 10% salary bonus scheme (quality & performance-based)

Key Responsibilities
- Assessment-centric duties:
- Conduct structured evaluations of how health conditions affect daily living
- Use empathy to observe, listen, and gather in-depth information
- Reporting:
- Write evidence-based reports (3,000–4,000 words)
- Provide detailed clinical justification for DWP decisions
- Productivity & collaboration:
- Complete up to 3 assessments per day (in-person, virtual, or phone)
- Collaborate effectively with DWP and claimants
Qualifications & Requirements
About You
- Qualified professional:
- Registered Nurse (RGN, RMN, or RNLD) with NMC registration OR
- HCPC-registered paramedic, occupational therapist, or physiotherapist
- Must hold a valid practice PIN & no current restrictions
- Experience:
- A minimum of 1 year post-registration experience
- Skills:
- Strong analytical ability and observational skills
- Excellent communication & interpersonal training
- Ability to produce clear, accurate reports on tight deadlines*
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and remote system learning
- Other:
- Driving license or transport access for assessment appointments
- Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)

Security & Compliance
This role requires:
- Enhanced bureaucracy check (spent and unspent convictions disclosed)
- Government vetting: Security standard baseline process (exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974)
- Safeguarding: Covered under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006
