Job Vacancy: Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP) - Band 6
We are pleased to announce a new vacancy in our Older Adult Mental Health Team based in Waltham Forest - a band 6 qualified Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP).
The CAP role is central to the team's psychological provision, with opportunities for 1:1 therapy, offering group interventions, and joint assessment and consultation. There will be opportunities for leadership, research, service development and consultation to the system, which will involve liaising with professionals involved in the care of the individual.
The Older Adult MHT works closely as an MDT, with weekly clinical meetings where complex cases can be thought about and MDT formulations can be developed. There is also opportunity to work jointly with other members of the MDT in cases of particular complexity.
The main team base is at Red Oak Lodge in Leytonstone but the successful candidate will be required to visit patients in various locations across the borough.
Job Responsibilities
The Clinical Associate Psychologist is a key role within both the psychology team and the wider Older Adult Mental Health team.
Key Duties Include
- Assessment and formulation for service users referred to Waltham Forest Older Adult Mental Health team, under supervision from the wider Psychology team.
- Brief interventions for complex presentations above the threshold for Waltham Forest Talking Therapies.
- Group interventions: including some interventions for older people who have recently been diagnosed with dementia and their carers.
- Seeing patients to do 1-1 work with them in the community.
- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team.
- Working with diversity and a range of clinical presentations.
- Opportunities for service development, research projects and audit of interventions.
- Interdisciplinary and inter-agency working.
Essential Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Psychology with Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society.
- MSc Clinical Associate in Psychology (MCAP) qualification from an accredited training provider.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes Hospital.

This post will be subject to a probationary period.
High Cost Area Supplement Outer London (B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest, CEME)
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941 p.a. pro rata for part time).
