Clinical Bioinformatician
Location: Slough, Hybrid 2-3 days on site per week
Start: ASAP
Contract: 6-12 months contract engagement (potential to extend)
FTE: 1.0 FTE, 37.5 hours per week
We are supporting a global Pharmaceutical client with a full-time freelance assignment, ideal for bioinformatics professionals who excel in clinical omics, patient-level molecular data, and the generation of mechanistic insights that directly influence clinical development. This role suits individuals who enjoy high-impact analytical work, cross-functional scientific collaboration, and operating in advanced computational environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Process, analyse, and interpret bulk and single-cell RNA-seq datasets from complex clinical studies
- Generate mechanistic insights into biological pathways, disease pathobiology, treatment effects, and safety signals
- Develop and maintain analysis pipelines using state-of-the-art tools, HPC, cloud, and containerised platforms
- Document code, workflows, and analyses following best practices for patient-level data and reproducibility
- Draft high-quality scientific reports and contribute to publications (abstracts, presentations, manuscripts)
- Integrate multi-omics data (spatial, epigenomic, proteomic) to derive relevant biological insights
- Apply functional interpretation methods such as pathway enrichment, module detection, and causal reasoning
- Relate omics findings to clinical variables to support decision-making for clinical assets
- Operate in HPC Unix, cloud-based, and containerised environments (Docker; DNAnexus is a plus)
- Communicate analytical outcomes clearly to expert and non-expert scientific audiences

What You Bring
- Master’s/PhD with strong experience, ideally including industry
- Extensive experience analysing bulk and single-cell RNA-seq datasets
- Strong capability in multi-omics integration; experience with spatial data, epigenomics, or proteomics is an advantage
- Expertise in functional interpretation methods (pathway enrichment, module detection, causal reasoning)
- Experience deriving insights from clinical trial omics datasets
- Excellent computational skills: HPC Unix, cloud platforms, containerisation, workflow engines
- Proficiency in R and other programming languages common in bioinformatics
- Strong grounding in statistics, data mining, and biological data visualisation
- Ability to communicate complex findings clearly; experience authoring scientific publications preferred
- High integrity, strong documentation discipline, and awareness of data governance
