Clinical Budget Analyst

About the Role

As a Clinical Budget Analyst at ICON, you will be the key resource to analyze various datasets and answer the critical question: "How much will this cost?"


What You Will Do

You will ensure vendor-related costs are forecasted, managed, and remain transparent for all clinical trials. This involves working with extensive datasets from clinical, procurement, and contract databases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize study protocols and fair market value databases to complete long-range budget forecasts and investigator grants forecasting
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of vendor reports, including:
    • Quarterly budget reconciliations
    • Global spend transparency reporting
  • Lead 1:1 meetings with study team members and vendors to align on:
    • Vendor costs
    • Invoicing
    • Financial reconciliations
  • Drive the change control process for study design adjustments impacting budgets, including:
    • Team buy-in
    • Forecasting updates
  • Oversee the study close-out process for vendor budgets, ensuring:
    • Final invoice reconciliations
    • Contract and purchase order updates
  • Monitor financial health of studies, programs, or vendors by tracking:
    • Project specifications
    • Units involved
    • Invoicing patterns
    • Change orders
    • Future forecasting
  • Liaise with finance teams as needed

Your Profile

This role requires a strong foundation in pricing, investigator payments, and the ability to work independently while guiding others. Here are the key qualifications:

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree: Bachelor’s (BA/BS) in Finance, Business, or a related field
  • Clinical Trial Experience: Proven background in clinical trial budgets or clinical trial operations
  • Analytical & Detail-Oriented: Ability to use critical thinking and attention to detail
  • Database & Data Handling:
    • Experience managing multiple databases (e.g., operations, outsourcing, procurement, fair market values)
    • Comfortable working with large datasets
  • Excel Proficiency:
    • Advanced MS Excel skills, including:
      • Modelling
      • Forecasting
  • Vendor Budget Review: Experience reviewing vendor budgets to identify cost drivers
  • Accounts Payable Systems Knowledge:
    • Familiarity with purchase orders, invoices, and accounts payable processes
