About the Role
The postholder will lead the pre-registration midwifery portfolio, providing professional and educational leadership for student midwives across maternity services. They will work collaboratively with students, clinical teams, Practice Supervisors, Practice Assessors and Higher Education Institutions to ensure safe, supportive and effective clinical learning environments.
Responsibilities
- Coordinating student placements, induction and learning opportunities
- Supporting students with learning, progression or wellbeing needs
- Ensuring appropriate support and action plans are in place where concerns arise
- Leading implementation of the NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (SSSA), including preparation and ongoing development of Practice Supervisors and Practice Assessors
- Maintaining oversight of SSSA compliance and capacity
- Monitoring placement quality, capacity and student experience, using feedback, audit and learning to support continuous improvement
- Representing maternity at relevant education and HEI meetings
- Maintaining awareness of national maternity and education priorities and ensuring these inform student learning
- Maintaining a visible clinical presence and working closely with maternity education, governance and leadership teams

Key Responsibilities
- Leading and supporting the clinical learning environment for pre-registration student midwives across maternity services
- Working closely with students, Practice Supervisors, Practice Assessors, clinical teams and Higher Education Institutions to ensure that placements are safe, supportive, inclusive and provide appropriate learning opportunities
- Supporting students with learning, progression or wellbeing needs
- Maintaining oversight of placement quality and capacity
- Using student and supervisor feedback to support improvement
- Supporting implementation of the NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment, including the preparation and ongoing development of Practice Supervisors and Practice Assessors
- Maintaining oversight of SSSA compliance within maternity
- Maintaining a visible clinical presence and providing a link between education, clinical practice, governance and quality improvement
