Team Lead for Theatres and Anaesthetic Medical Device Maintenance Team within Clinical Engineering

About the Role

The Clinical Engineering department, within the Healthcare Science and Technology service line at Derriford hospital is responsible for the reporting, management and maintenance of 46,000 individual, active medical devices within our database.

This post is to lead a team of Technicians, Engineers and Senior Engineers supporting the team to fulfil their duties and maintain patient safety through well maintained and available medical devices.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of technicians/engineers providing expertise in one or more technologies, work processes and clinical disciplines.
  • Manages and leads in the selection and recruitment of new staff.
  • Performs Individual Performance Reviews on members of their team or delegates this task as appropriate.
  • Manages and leads on disciplinary and performance issues in relation to members of their team.
  • Authorises leave ensuring minimum staffing levels and operation effectiveness are maintained during core hours.
  • Manages and monitors sickness and absence of members of their team.
  • Plans work of members of their team, as required.
  • Proactively manages prioritisation and allocation of incoming work to ensure that staff resources are effectively employed, and customer needs are fulfilled. And ensures completion in compliance with the Quality System.
  • Responsible for agreeing staffing cover in the event of sickness, annual leave or absence from the department, deputising for other Team Leaders and occasionally for Clinical Engineering Management.
