Resident Dr Clinical fellow Foundation level

Post Summary

Working within the Department of General Surgery, this post will give the post holder the opportunity to gain clinical experience, develop procedural skills, perform quality improvement work and work towards completion of Certificate of Readiness to Enter Specialty Training (CREST). This post will offer the successful applicant the opportunity to develop their clinical and professional competence in a purposeful and supervised manner.

The post is based in the surgical department at Ninewells Hospital, covering emergency and elective admissions for general surgery (oesphagogastric, hepatobiliary and colorectal), vascular surgery and urology. In addition, all doctors at foundation level within the department, rotate to Perth Royal Infirmary, which provides elective general surgery. The successful candidate will provide a contribution to out of hours and weekend rotas, covering the surgical department.

There are a total of 2 clinical fellow positions at FY1 level.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Clinical care of elective and emergency general surgical, vascular and urological patients.
  • Participation in ward rounds and managing the day-to-day inpatient workload.
  • Prompt completion of discharges.
  • Teaching medical students as directed.
  • Attendance at clinical meetings and MDTs.
  • Participation in Department educational programme.
  • Participation in emergency and out of hours rota.

COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Post Holder Will Be Expected To Establish And Maintain Extremely Good Communications And Working Relationships With a Wide Range Of Staff, Including

  • Clinical Director who will act as immediate Line manager
  • Supervising Staff members from Medical, Clinical and Allied Health Practitioners (AHPs) backgrounds
  • Named Clinical and Educational Supervisor
  • Colleagues in training grades at Foundation, Core and Specialty level
  • Service Management Team
  • Surgical nursing teams

Base

Ninewells Hospital, Dundee though may be required to work at other NHS Tayside sites (including Perth Royal Infirmary) as required by the service.
