Job Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic doctors to join our dynamic Emergency Department team. This post is suitable for candidates working at either SHO/ST1-2 level or ST3+ level, and applications from both grades are welcomed. Applicants will be asked to specify the grade they are applying for during the application process.

The role is delivered through a 24-hour rota and offers continuous support from experienced senior clinicians (ST4+ and above). Successful candidates will gain extensive exposure to a wide range of acute presentations and rotate through all clinical areas of the Emergency Department.

This is an excellent opportunity for doctors considering a career in Emergency Medicine, another acute specialty, or General Practice, providing valuable clinical experience within a busy and supportive environment.

Please note that interview expenses are not reimbursed.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Experience (80%)

The majority of the role is dedicated to clinical practice within the Emergency Department, allowing you to:

  • Manage a diverse range of acute and emergency presentations
  • Gain experience across all areas of the department
  • Develop clinical decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Work alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams with 24-hour senior support
  • Build a strong foundation for a future career in Emergency Medicine, acute specialties, or General Practice.

Non-Clinical Development Time (20%)

For the first 12 months of the post, 20% of your job plan will be protected for non-clinical activity. During this time, you will join one of our departmental development teams, contributing to projects that support innovation, education, quality improvement and patient care. After 12 months in post, the role will revert to a fully clinical position (100% clinical time).

Applications from candidates wishing to work Less Than Full Time (LTFT) are welcomed. Flexible options are available, including the opportunity to undertake a fully clinical role without protected non-clinical time. For example, candidates may choose to work at 50% of a full-time equivalent position.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
