Job Description
This is a full-time clinical post based at The Royal Eye Unit, Kingston Hospital, to provide elective and emergency care for ophthalmology patients as part of a multidisciplinary team.
There is no out of hours on-call commitment.
The post offers an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their clinical knowledge and skills in the management with patients with acute ophthalmology problems, cornea and cataract pathology. It would be ideally suited for a candidate who has already received basic training in cataract surgery but is not fully independent and wishes to build up their experience and surgical numbers.
The Fellowship will be primarily supervised by the Medical Retina Consultants.
The Post Holder Would Be Expected To
- Regular clinical duties, based at The Royal Eye Unit, Kingston Hospital involve the management of ophthalmic outpatients which may include a community clinic close to the hospital, with support from a Retina Consultant.
- Kingston hospital has regular clinics specialising in age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, and general retinal disease.
- The post holder will receive training in the management of medical retinal disorders, including intravitreal injections and insertion of intravitreal steroid implants and retinal laser procedures.
- The post holder will have the opportunity to attend weekly Retina Clinic at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
- The Fellow will be given protected theatre time to allow exposure and training in cataract surgery.
- The post holder will receive training in the management of medical retinal conditions.
- Provide clinical advice and where appropriate treatment.
- To maintain their general ophthalmic skills, the post holder will have a regular Eye Casualty session at Kingston Hospital.
- The post holder will be responsible for organising theatre lists in conjunction with the supervising consultant.
- The post holder will be expected to support inpatient and ward referrals.
- Help develop the service in accordance with Trust policy.
- Support trainees as appropriate.
