Clinical Fellow in Urology (ST5+)

£49,217 - £65,112 per annum pro rata

Hours: 40 hours per week

Fixed Term for 12 months

About the Role

Applications are invited for a one-year Clinical Fellow in Urology based at the Department of Urology, Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

The post is suitable for candidates who have significant experience in Urology overseas or within the UK and wish to progress their career further with a view to portfolio development, or overseas candidates who wish to expand their training and acquire experience of working in a high-volume tertiary referral unit in the UK.

The successful applicant will become an integral part of the urological services delivered across NHS Highland. You will join a department of highly motivated consultant urologists and specialist nurses who work as a strong team, with individual skills and specialist interests to complement each other. The department currently has an establishment of five consultants. This is an additional post within Urology service.

The Urology unit is based here in Inverness at the Highland Urology Centre. We provide urological care for the population of the Highlands, Western Isles and some of the Small Isles.

All major surgery, one stop clinics and specialist investigations are based in Raigmore. We are supported by our rural general hospitals, who currently offer diagnostic services as well as elective and emergency rural general surgery. We have a dedicated diagnostic hub, the Highland Urology Centre, and are increasing services that can be offered to streamline patient care, especially on a one stop basis. In theatre we have a Da Vinci Xi Robotic platform delivered for multi specialty use with dedicated Urology allocation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The Department of General Surgery and Urology will be expanding due to pressure of clinical activity and currently comprises thirteen General Surgeons with a full range of sub-specialties and five Urologists.

Requirements

Candidates must possess MBChB/MBBS and MRCS (or equivalent) and must have at least provisional UK GMC registration. However, as the post is not currently recognised for training, it is ideally suited for candidates who have already obtained FRCS Urology, FEBU or equivalent overseas qualifications. As such, specialist qualifications (e.g. FRCS Urology, FEBU or equivalent) are desirable.

This post is open primarily to applicants who do not require sponsorship to take up employment in the UK. Any applications from applicants who do require sponsorship will be considered only if no suitable UK, EEA national or those with verifiable permission to work in the UK are identified for the post.
